Interlibrary Loan, commonly referred to by the acronym ILL, is an aid to your research process. ILL helps you obtain books, periodical articles, and other media that are not available at the RichLyn Library. Through state, regional, and national sources we have access to millions of items from other libraries. Some materials such as rare material, reference books, textbooks, e-books and computer software are not available for loan. Music and video recordings may be made by special request only and may not be available for loan.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) services are available to all current Huntington University students, faculty and staff.
Community patrons and Alumni may also have certain ILL privileges. Alumni are requested to use their local institutions as the primary source for ILL material. Recognizing that not all alumni have access to ILL services, the RichLyn Library will provide ILL service for articles where there is no charge from the lending library. Alumni are not able to borrow books and other physical items through ILL. Many states offer access to various databases for their citizens such as INSPIRE for the citizens of Indiana.
Articles normally arrive within 24 to 48 hours when transmitted electronically. All other material coming from Indiana libraries may be available within a week but we always request you allow a minimum of two weeks before inquiring about a request. Material received from out-of-state may take longer. If you need a rush item please contact Interlibrary Loan Services for possible options and charges.
Article will be delivered electronically to you Huntington University email address.
Books and other material are available for pickup at RichLyn Library Service Desk, and you will be notified by Interlibrary Loan Services that your request has arrived.
Students at our Fort Wayne and Arizona Campuses who are seeking books and other physical items should make special arrangements with Interlibrary Loan Services to have the material delivered.
Most periodical articles are not returned and may be kept by the patron. Other items are usually loaned anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks depending on the policies of the lending library. A note will come with the material as to the due date. Usually one renewal may be requested but it is only granted by permission of the lending library. Renewal request must be made at least 3 days before the item is due to allow time for response from the lending library. Any overdue charges are the responsibility of the patron. Please contact the Interlibrary Loan Services to make a renewal request.
RichLyn Library does not charge for any request, however, we do pass on any charges from other libraries. While many libraries do not charge, including PALNI and most Indiana libraries, there are some that will charge from $1 to $50 for interlibrary loan services. Our practice is always to seek materials from libraries that do not charge, you will not be required to pay a fee to use interlibrary loan services through the RichLyn Library. If you are willing to pay for materials if the need arises, you may add that as a comment to your interlibrary loan form. You will always be informed of a fee before you are charged and will be asked to confirm your willingness to pay. If we are unable to reach you regarding a fee, or you are no longer willing to pay, the request will be cancelled and you will not be charged. Please note that all charges must be paid prior to materials being turned over to you, even if the item requested arrives after the designated due date. Failure to pay changes will result in a loss of interlibrary loan privileges and your university account will be charged.
